What To Do When You’re Overwhelmed

Spread the love

I was at my wit’s end last week.

My website was down for five days!

Maybe it was a hacker, maybe a virus, maybe too much load…I didn’t know. I left it to the Tech folks to figure out.

When it first went down I was pretty calm, thinking it would be up within 15 minutes. (This happens from time to time). But as I reached a two hour mark I really started to panic.

I kicked off a workshop on Monday with hundreds of people enrolled (that no one had access to).

I just received one of the biggest media exposures I ever had, (a few hours before all systems went down).

And then, I had no way for anyone to reach me, get their information or find what they needed.

When that all hit, I panicked. I mean, like really started sweating.

I had a hundred things to do to get it fixed. Needed to send tons of emails, put up a temporary site, get everything up on YouTube, call my server company, work with Tech Support and so much more.

And then the message from today’s video hit me square in the face. (I swear this is a true story).

I needed to take my own advice.

So I did.

And even though my site was still down and I had what felt like a million things to panic about…I let go of the overwhelm and moved forward.ย

I can’t wait to share the strategy I used, in today’s video. It’s a little trick that’s took me fromย total stress caseย toย slightly anxious. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Maybeย youย can use this technique today with something going on in your life.

When you’re done watching, I’d love to hear if you think it will work for you too.ย That sweet little comment box over on my blog is calling your name. ๐Ÿ˜‰

With so much love and appreciation for you,
Xoxo,
Mridu

When my husband and I were in the process of building our home… There were so many steps that needed to be handled at the same time. My husband would freak out, feeling overwhelmed and not knowing what to do…
I would tell him take five and look at the big picture…
I would look at the jobs and see whatp was a must do first… Then instruct him not to look at anything but that one task. It really helped to keep him focused and calm.
The jobs took us months to do.. We worked on it everyday….
This method was the only way we got this huge project done.
I became the Forman… And directer… And we became a building machine…

I have a room where I keep my antiques and vintage things to price and take to the Antique mall. Yes that is what I do, make it too much about the big picture, there are just too many boxes, drawers etc to sort, I don’t have that kind of time. I will make my new mantra, just go through 1 drawer, and then see where it goes from there ๐Ÿ™‚

Exactly what I need done. The Garage. My husbands domain. What a mess. I think him and I need to go right now and do that one corner. Step l.

Love it Dyan! One drawer at a time… ๐Ÿ™‚ xo,m

Great story Sher! Thanks for sharing. And you’re right, it does take consistent work…but one small task at a time. Thank you! xo, mridu

Keep it up Mary! Small, consistent action reaps big rewards. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hang in there! xo, m

I bet he’ll react a lot better to “one corner” than “the whole garage” too. ๐Ÿ˜‰ good luck Beverly!

Yikes,I just moved from a 2400 sq ft home to 1300. I did not try to sell things but instead gave away (out of my abundance as you taught in previous e-mails) to The Salvation Army and church homeless ministry. So my house is settled but my garage is full. Today’s message on a garage spoke directly to me. As I had become as you described OVERWHELMED AND PARALYZED. I have decided to handle one item at least every day to get me back on track.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Mirdu

How did you know I was feeling overwhelmed yesterday?

Mridu, you must have had a good backup system in place during those five days of Power House Ultimate, because I was able to see all your videos every day and go into Facebook to comment โ€“ even though your website was down. I like the one small step at a time approach and should use it more often. Some things on my To Do list need to be broken down into more little steps โ€“ because I notice they are not getting done. For today, clearing off the top of my desk after I get done with this email will be my one step task so I can face the afternoon with peace and move on.

Mridu

omg! I am so behind on my life that I just realized it was two weeks ago! You’re right…last week it was back up – but I’m still playing catch up. ๐Ÿ˜‰ And love how you’r already implementing this tip Janet. Great job! And nice desk. ๐Ÿ˜‰ xo, mridu

Mridu

LOL! Don’t we all feel that sister…don’t we all?!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ xo, m

You’re so welcome Rita…and that’s awesome! Garages are beasts! Definitely spaces of overwhelm. It’s amazing how much you can get done in just a couple weeks if you tackle just one small area a day. Good luck to you and congrats on your move and downsizing so beautifully! xo, mridu

Just what I needed to hear today! THANK YOU!! Seems so easy to “just take the next step”, that ONE next step. I can do that. You make it all seem easy. Actually, it IS easy, if we remember to take it one step at a time. Thanks again for a timely message, (you mind-reader, you!) ๐Ÿ™‚

Carolyn

Thanks for a timely…Just take one next step to your goal.
I have a large Curio Cabinet that holds my doll collection. It needed my Christmas decorations theme removed. (Plus, various odds and ends that had found a not so cozy home.) I took a before picture. I brought a storage bin in from my building. Put it front and center in front of the cabinet. Started cleaning/clearing/simplifying 1 section at a time until it was done. Pulled some things to donate, some things to gift, and some things to store until next Christmas. I think I need to plan a White Elephant Swap Summer Party and invite my family to come and take home some of my White Elephants!

Thanks, Mridu. Just the simple next step of clearing off my messy desk and washing the lunch dishes on it after writing the above comment gave me enough of a mood lift and confidence to complete a few financial tasks I dreaded facing. Your video reminded me of this trick…one of my favorites too when I can’t see my way clear.

Mridu

I always say, “the simple things aren’t so easy to do.” ๐Ÿ˜‰ They should be…but take reminding and practice. I need to remind myself of this all the time. So glad it was helpful for you too Diane! Thanks as always, for your support. ๐Ÿ™‚ xo, m

Mridu

Sounds like such a relaxing and pleasurable experience Carolyn. Way to take it one step at a time and get it done. Thanks for sharing this great story. xo, m

Karen

I just finished working in my sewing room, small area by area. Bags are packed for donation (no guilt thanks to last week’s post) and I’m only saving two quilts to work on in the future. Thank you, Mridu, this technique really worked!

Kay F

thanks. I think it was just what I needed to hear today. By the way, I love that shirt on you. Great choice!

Mridu

awesome Kay – so glad to hear it! And thanks for the compliment ๐Ÿ™‚
