Two Non-Negotiable Rules To Stay Organized

Spread the love

Ever go shopping for someone else and come home empty handed for them – but with something special for you?

Happens to me all the time.

Can’t find a thing for my BFF or mom, but I mysteriously find those perfect boots or jeans that I’ve been looking for for-evah.

I especially find this phenomenon happening during the holidays. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Whether I’m shopping online or in the store, there always seems to be something just right for my home or closet.

Yet, if you came over to my house (which I do hope you get a chance to some time), you’d see it’s pretty simplified. You won’t find a whole lot of clutter here and it’s not because I’m a clutter freak. Okay, maybe I am a bit.

But really my home and life stay organizedย because of two simple habits.

And you guessed it. That’s exactly what I’m sharing with your sweet self in today’s vid. I’d be thrilled if you got in on these tips too.

In fact, when you’re done watching, puh-lease let me know which one you’re gonna be doing (especially while we get through these next few weeks).ย

Thank you my sweet friend. You are the bestest.

With love and appreciation,
Mridu

All of it ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t like clutter and it’s a constant battle to keep thing under control. It’s soooo easy to get caught up with the “buy, buy, buy”-mentality, especially when something is a great bargain. Also getting rid of one thing makes total sense when bringing a new item in.. I love these tips, thanks Mridu!

You’re so welcome Maria! I especially think it’s hard to not buy during the holidays – when they’re temptations everywhere. So this was a really good reminder for me too. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for kicking off the conversation. xo, mridu

Good Morning Maria!! I, too, love the “one in, one out” rule but have found it challenging this season. Last year, my family and I had just completed my new home, a 250sf cabin I call the Hobbit House. I love it and the simplicity it demands from me. However, this Christmas I am finding so many things I MUST have from new french presses to new candleholders….and I was just looking for more creative storage when I watching this video. I am now moving the old into the “out box” in my truck!!! You both have saved me from a horrible fate. Thank you and I will surely keep watching.

To me, being more intentional in bringing stuff in, is a lot easier than the 1 in and 1 out.

Funny how we’re all so different. The great thing is to be thinking in general about the stuff we buy and accumulate. Thanks for your thoughts Gayathri! ๐Ÿ™‚ xo, mridu

LOVE it Wendy! I especially love it when you hear or see something just when you need it. That’s the universe at work. ๐Ÿ˜‰ So glad these tips and conversations helped you out in any way. Cheers! xo, mridu

Very good video. When you mentioned towels that got me thinking… If I get new towels the old ones then shift to cleaning rags etc. I need to really look at my cleaning rags and get rid of some of them. You only need so many cleaning rags/towels. Some of them are getting pretty threat bare. One new towel in / one cleaning rag out.

Mridu

Awesome Terry…and thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚ Agreed…you only need so many rags. So glad this was helpful for you, my friend. Best, mridu

Right now, my husband and I are doing a major purge of our possessions, and it feels wonderful! We started in the garage on a beautiful sunny day, set out cardboard boxes, and started filling them up. It was great for husband to do this with me, because we could check with each other about what an item was and whether it was ok to donate it.
Once we got going, it was like a game to find things to donate. I then loaded up the car, drove to the Re-Store, and dropped off the donations. I’ve been doing that for a week now.
Seeing so much Stuff leave our house, I really am aware when new stuff comes in. I now literally say what I’m bringing in the house as I walk through the front door. For ex. “6 magazines Billie Sue gave me”.
And I love both your suggestions, Mridu. I am already more intentional when I consider if I want that item in my increasingly clear home.
And one in- one out is also a guideline I use. Thanks.

Mridu

Quay, I’ve missed you! ๐Ÿ™‚ Wow! Way to get SO much out of your home. That is AMAZING. I love how you literally say what is coming into your home. I’m trying that starting tomorrow. Seriously, that’s great idea. Talk about setting intentions. Thanks so much for sharing this. Hope you’re well. (And kudos to your awesome hubby!) xo,mridu

I really like the idea of the one-in-one-out rule, but it doesn’t really work for me. I like keeping magazines (I buy craft magazines, so they don’t really get stale.), having a big library of books, etc.

I have been trying to be intentional about what I buy. I sort of trick myself into this way of thinking by saying to myself “If you buy this you will have it forever. Is that what you want?” Of course, I do declutter, but I find it easier to make smart shopping choices if I think about having the item sticking around my house forever.

Mridju

Heather, that’s a really good point about your magazines. Some things you want to save for a collection. But it just can’t be everything in your life — IF you want to avoid an overcluttered life. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I also really like the question you ask yourself. (I’m going to add that to my question list. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks so much for your message Heather. xo, mridu
