My Best Closet Organization Tip

Spread the love

I have envy. California Closet envy.

I have white, builder grade, wire rods in my closet. Not pretty. And limited in functionality.

I recognize this is a very first-world problem to have. Rods in my walk-in closet in my beautiful home. Tough life, I know.

Still, I’m not gonna lie. I salivate when I see a friend’s pull-out pant organizer or built-in boot rack. Getting green just thinking about it.

But having worked with so many amazing people I’ve realized this:

It doesn’t matter how beautiful your closet organizers are – if you don’t know how to make good use of your closet.Β

There are a lot of tips about how to organize your closet but there’s one that saves me the most time when I’m getting dressed.

It also has two other amazing benefits that I’m sharing in today’s episode. I can’t wait for you to see it!

And when you’re through watching, here’s what I would loooooove to hear from you, my sweet friend.

  • Are you already using this closet organization tip? Aaaaannd…
  • Do you have any other awesome tips to share?Β

Don’t keep all the goodness to yourself sweet thang. Join me over in the comments….and pour your heart out! I’ll be waiting for you. πŸ˜‰

To imperfection and simplicity!

Mridu

Great Show! I already color code my clothes. I also stack the color coded tops by category of sleeveless, short sleeves, 3/4th length and long sleeved & turtle neck.

Good morning, I am taking you up on this challenge. I have things in two small closets. Have no idea what I have. Keep buying tops because I don’t think I have the right color. This may save me money. Gotta get busy.

lola

I already sort by color, too. It really does help! Any advice for storing SHOES!?!? Thank you!

Alphabetize my clothes? I almost turned off your video in defeat. So glad I kept watching. I usually use the category method of skirts, pants, tops – which may be why I never feel put together color-wise. I quickly re-arranged my closet just now by color. This will definitely work much better when I need to shop for clothes. Thanks again Mridu for another great tip.

Would LOOOVE to hear how it goes Beverly. I really do think it’s going to save you money…and frustration. πŸ˜‰ Good luck! xo, mridu

You’re so quick Janet. I love an instant action-taker! And I’m so glad you found it helpful. It really does help with shopping. Thanks so much for sharing! xo, mridu

I already organize by color my hanging clothes, but the clothes on the shelves and in the drawers.. that’s another story. They never stay organized very long. It is true that it makes it easier to purge too, πŸ˜‰

Hi Mridu, I am forever trying to organize my closet. I have a question. Before I watched your video, I had my closet arranged by category and color coded within each category. For instance all sweaters together. With your system, are we supposed to put white tank tops with white sweaters for instance?

Mridu

Hey Christine!
Great question. And the truth is – I think it’s up to you. I’ve worked with some clients where its worked for them to have their white tanks hanging beside their white sweaters because they live in a mild climate and they wear many of their clothes year round. Yet, other people separate by color AND category because it’s easier to have all their jackets in one area (by color) and blouses in another. Generally this works better when you have a lot of clothes. For example if you have 20 blouses and 20 jackets it might be easier to separate. But if you only had 5 blouses and 5 jackets it might be easier to keep them together (by color). So basically, you might want to try both ways and see what works best for you. Hope that made sense!! And thanks so much for writing in. XO, mridu

What an eye opener. I had already gotten rid of clothes I wasn’t using. And I had sorted my casual clothes and dressy clothes on different colored hangers. But When I did this challenge and organized clothes by color, I discovered my dressier clothes were almost all turquoise and my casual clothes were mostly orange. I think I need to branch out a little in my color palette. Great video!

Christine

Hey Mridu! That totally makes sense. Ok. I really thank you for your clarification and for your really prompt response! Have a great day.

Mridu

That’s such a great realization Sherie. I never even thought about it that way. It helps you identify what colors you’re really strong in. Thanks for sharing. Such good insight!! xo, m

I also sort by function/use. Work clothes, workout/motorcycle, everyday and dress. Dress clothes are hanged on upper rod with outfits and like materials matched. Work clothes(shirts) and every day tops have a special hanging section on bottom rod. Folded pants and every day tees have a shelf each. Of course I have the like colors together as you suggested. Motorcycle and outer gear wear have a separate closet entirely.

I also sort by color, and stack tee shirts in those hanging drawers, by color. It DOES make dressing easier!
