3 Awesome Ways To Keep Your Family Organized

Spread the love

Like taking care of yourself isn’t hard enough, right?

Add on kids, a hubby (or wife), or any other family member and you’re easily drowning.

To be honest, I was never an organized person. Neat, but not organized. But I got along just fine on my own.

It was when I started a family that things began swirling out of control. So many schedules to keep track of and OMG! – SO. MUCH. STUFF!

And I was already dealing with my own changes with marriage and kids, that it was hard to think about how to manage everyone else in the process.

But over time I learned and got better at it. And today I’m proud to say that my cozy, little home practically runs itself.

Haha! You didn’t really believe that, did you?

Our home is FAR from running itself. πŸ˜‰

It’s still up to me to keep on top of everyone…and everything. BUT, there are definitely some super valuable strategies in place to help keep things moving smoothly.

And that’s exactly what you’ll find out in today’s vid: my top three family organization tips.

I’m hoping you’ll get motivated to make one change in your family too, or just get a little better at reinforcing one of these strategies.

Either way, I’d love to hear what action you’re going to take, my sweet friend.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your time and support each week.

Here’s to you andΒ your family,
XO,
Mridu

Note to add to the calendar –make sure to keep pens near by — I always liked to assign each one a different color and told them once they were old enough to write reasonably it was their responsibility to add their things to the calendar by Sunday for that week. If last minute things come up they were to tell mom & dad as well as add it to the calendar.

so many great nuggets of wisdom in that Cheryl! Delegating tasks, teaching kids responsibility and keep everyone accountable for their own stuff. THANK YOU! xo, mridu

I did get a medium size desk calendar from the dollar store and punched 2 holes in the top and hung it on the refrigerator with magnet hooks to hang it. Then I also picked up a dollar magnet bin to hold pens and scissors etc… Each person has a color pen assigned to them to write their schedule on calendar, a highlighter to signify important events for everyone to be aware of. The rule is : if you don’t put it on calendar 48 hours before the event, you aren’t guaranteed to be ale to go or to get a ride there. First you ask then you put it on the calendar. There is extra space to write notes for the month. So if there is a food request you can jot it down. So far it has worked well. Thanks for the great ideas!!!

Thanks Mridu ! I think its important to get rid of the perfectionism as you have implied in your video. I have gone through a couple rooms trying to get rid of the extraneous stuff that isn’t needed. As I have done this I keep reminding myself that it doesn’t have to be PERFECT and I can come back again and again and make new decisions. It helps to think this way….sometimes hard, but helpful. Thanks again for your great inspiration !

OK. That is seriously awesome!! I love that “if you don’t have 48 notice, you’re not guaranteed to go or get a ride.” This is so gonna start happening my my house. πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing that epic tip!

(Also, isn’t the Dollar Store one of the best places ever?!)

I’m so glad I could help in any way Dal. And yes, you’re right. I am NOT a fan of perfectionism. πŸ™‚ In fact, I think friends are really surprised to see my closets and pantry etc. They are SIMPLIFIED (very decluttering) – but not at all perfect with matching labels and hangers etc. But it works – GREAT! Keep it up Dal…You’ll thank yourself for getting stuff done and moving on. πŸ™‚ xo, mridu

Working on making everyone responsible and stopping mysel from taking on away their response-ability!

Mridu

You know how much I loves me the master calendar Kalpana. πŸ˜‰ Good luck with it! It’s a lifesaver. πŸ™‚

I know – that is a hard thing to do. So much easier to just do it yourself, right? But it really is great in the long run. Keep it up — definitely a journey! Thanks for sharing Heather. πŸ™‚ xo, mridu

We have a big paper calendar. But I tend to rely on my virtual calendars that sync themselves across my devices. I need to make a routine regularly update the paper family calendar against my electronic calendar.
Thanks for another informative and funny video!

You’re so welcome Laura! And I’m a very digital calendar person too. Really helps my husband and I with our schedules. But I find the big paper one really helps my kids – since they’re too young for the online kind. Also, visually it just really helps all of it. But you’re right – it can challenging to make the time to transfer from one to the other….but so worth it! πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing your thoughts. xo, mridu
